Comparative Genotype Analysis using Short Tandem Repeat Assay
Maternal Cell Contamination (Cord Blood)
Donor-Recipient Contamination Assessment
Test Overview
Clinical Utility
- Maternal Cell Contamination (Cord Blood): Assess for maternal cell contamination (MCC) of an umbilical cord blood sample obtained at delivery or other specimen where there is an increased risk for MCC.
- Note that this testing requires a maternal comparator sample (blood, buccal).
- All GeneDx prenatal testing includes evaluation of maternal cell contamination; therefore, it is not necessary to add this to a prenatal test order.
- Please contact our prenatal team at 888-729-1206 option 2 or [email protected] with any questions.
- Donor-Recipient Contamination Assessment: Assess for donor-recipient contamination after a solid-organ transplant (e.g., heart transplant). This test is not available for patients who underwent a bone marrow transplant.
- Note that this testing requires a comparator sample from the recipient (blood, buccal).
- Please contact our cardiology team at 888-729-1206, option 2 or [email protected] with any questions.

Ordering Information
Important Information
This assay compares a specimen from the patient to a secondary specimen source to evaluate for contamination. This test is primarily used to assess maternal cell contamination (MCC) in cord blood specimens, but may be appropriate in specific/approved situations where postnatal testing is being ordered on prenatal specimen types. This test is also used for solid-organ transplant recipients to assess for donor-recipient contamination post-transplant.
For transplant recipients, this test is required prior to, or concurrent with, the diagnostic genetic test.
